El Muellito & la Playa

The secret of local diving

The area around El Muellito and the two breakwaters of Playa Chica is a magical place to enjoy the underwater world both during the day and at night. It is the perfect spot to observe how the marine life changes after sunset.
This shallow dive is ideal for snorkelling, introductory dives and first-time training sessions. Even experienced divers enjoy it after exploring the deeper walls.

Whether from shore or by boat, this area offers more than 10 different routes suitable for all levels. For those who simply want to explore with a mask and snorkel, try a first dive, or even enjoy a night dive, this is an ideal spot thanks to the abundant marine life concentrated around Playa Chica and close to the shore towards El Muellito.

In the sunlight, schools of mullet, salema, white seabream, ornate wrasse, striped seabream, colourful Mediterranean rainbow wrasse and damselfish almost seem to hypnotise us. A closer look at the rocks will reveal colourful sea slugs, such as Hypselodoris picta, as well as the striking harlequin crab.

At night, the sand hosts a fauna that is entirely different from what appears during the day. The nocturnal sandy bottom transforms into a true garden, filled with anemones and all kinds of animals such as clownfish, octopuses, and curiosities like fabians, Mediterranean congers, and comb jellies. As the sun sets, most fish go to sleep, making way for the invertebrates. Notable are the narwhal shrimp that ascend from the depths to feed, the spotted shrimp, and the harlequin crab.
